Ohau Stream Walkway is a short, family-friendly stroll through lush native bush to a stunning waterfall and natural rock pool. The real draw? From June to October, New Zealand fur seal pups use this pool as a playful nursery while their mothers fish at sea. It’s an utterly endearing wildlife encounter that feels like a secret – and it’s completely free.

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 1 to 1.5 hours for the walk and seal-viewing. It’s a perfect quick stop on the drive between Kaikōura and Blenheim – combine with a whale-watching trip or the Kaikōura Peninsula Walkway for a full day of coastal nature.
