Westland National Park is a wild, untamed slice of New Zealand's South Island west coast, where ancient rainforests meet towering glaciers and the Tasman Sea. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers some of the most dramatic landscapes in the country, from the Franz Josef and Fox glaciers to the rugged coastline. It's a paradise for hikers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking raw, natural beauty.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for at least two full days to experience the park's highlights. Spend one day exploring Franz Josef Glacier and the surrounding walks, and another day at Fox Glacier and Lake Matheson. If you're an avid hiker, add a third day for the Copland Track or a heli-hike. The park is compact enough that you can base yourself in Franz Josef or Fox Glacier village and drive between attractions.
