Glendhu Bay is a serene crescent of pale sand and turquoise water on the shores of Lake Wanaka, backed by the dramatic peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park. This peaceful spot feels a world away from Wanaka township, yet is just a short drive from its cafés and galleries. The bay is a launch pad for some of the South Island's best hiking, fishing, and kayaking, and its calm waters and mountain backdrop make it a photographer's dream.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a half-day to a full day exploring Glendhu Bay. If you're keen on the Rob Roy Glacier walk, allocate at least 4-5 hours for the return hike. For a relaxed visit, combine a morning kayak with a picnic on the beach and a short walk along the Glendhu Bay Track. The bay also makes a lovely overnight stop if you're continuing onward to the West Coast or Central Otago.
