Nelson Lakes National Park is a pristine alpine wonderland in the northern South Island, where beech forests, glacial lakes, and rugged mountains create a serene escape. The park's centrepiece, Lake Rotoiti and Lake Rotoroa, offer mirror-like waters reflecting the surrounding peaks. It's a paradise for hikers, kayakers, and those seeking solitude in nature.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Spend at least 2–3 days to truly appreciate the park. Use the first day for a short lakeside stroll and visit St. Arnaud; dedicate the second day to a longer hike like the Mount Robert Circuit. If you're an avid tramper, add an extra day for a multi-day trek into the backcountry, such as the Travers-Sabine Circuit.
