New Zealand's most famous wine region, Marlborough, is a sun-drenched patchwork of vineyards that produces the country's iconic Sauvignon Blanc. The region's centerpiece is the Wairau Valley, where over 70 wineries offer cellar door tastings against a backdrop of rugged mountains. Beyond the vines, the region boasts the stunning Marlborough Sounds, a network of drowned river valleys perfect for kayaking and hiking. The town of Blenheim serves as the hub, with a lively café scene and the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre for a dose of history.
Highlights & What to See
- Wine Tasting in the Wairau Valley: Cycle or drive between iconic wineries like Cloudy Bay, Brancott Estate, and Saint Clair for world-class Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
