New Zealand's most famous wine region, Marlborough, is a sun-drenched patchwork of vineyards that produces the country's iconic Sauvignon Blanc. The region's centerpiece is the Wairau Valley, where over 70 wineries offer cellar door tastings against a backdrop of rugged mountains. Beyond the vines, the region boasts the stunning Marlborough Sounds, a network of drowned river valleys perfect for kayaking and hiking. The town of Blenheim serves as the hub, with a lively café scene and the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre for a dose of history.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Dedicate at least two full days to the Marlborough Wine Region. Spend one day cycling or driving the wine trails and visiting cellar doors, and another exploring the Marlborough Sounds. If you're a keen hiker, add an extra day for a section of the Queen Charlotte Track. The region is compact enough to use Blenheim as a base.
