The Hooker Valley Track is one of New Zealand's most rewarding short walks, offering jaw-dropping views of Aoraki/Mount Cook and the Southern Alps without requiring serious mountaineering skills. This gentle, well-maintained trail winds through the Hooker Valley, crossing swing bridges and alpine meadows before culminating at the terminal lake of the Hooker Glacier, where icebergs drift on milky blue water.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 3 to 4 hours return for the full 10-kilometre walk, including time to soak up the scenery at the lake. Most people start early to avoid crowds and catch the best morning light on the mountains. The track is suitable for all fitness levels, though sturdy footwear is recommended as sections can be uneven.
