Bealey Valley is a rugged, wild corridor carved by glaciers and rivers in Arthur’s Pass National Park. The valley floor is a mosaic of tussock, river stones, and alpine flowers, while the surrounding peaks rise sharply into the clouds. For those driving between Canterbury and the West Coast, this is a place to pull over, breathe the crisp mountain air, and feel the raw power of New Zealand’s Southern Alps.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 1–2 hours in Bealey Valley, enough for the short walk and a riverside stop. If you’re a keen photographer or tramper, you could easily linger half a day. Combine it with a drive over Arthur’s Pass and a meal at the village pub for a memorable half-day break.
