- Harris Saddle (Tarahaka Whakatipu) – The highest point on the track (1,255 m), with a shelter and spectacular vistas of the Hollyford Valley.
- Lake Mackenzie – A turquoise gem nestled beneath sheer cliffs, perfect for a refreshing dip or a peaceful lunch stop.

Suggested Time to Spend
Most walkers complete the Routeburn Track in 2 to 3 days, staying at the Department of Conservation huts or campsites. A common itinerary is to start at the Routeburn Shelter (Glenorchy end) and finish at The Divide (Milford Road), or vice versa. If you have limited time, a day hike to Key Summit from The Divide is a rewarding option, taking about 3–4 hours return. For the full experience, book hut passes well in advance, especially during peak season (October to April).
