Mount Aspiring National Park is a raw, glacier-carved wilderness in the Southern Alps, centred on the iconic 3033-metre Mount Aspiring/Tititea. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers some of New Zealand’s most dramatic alpine scenery — think hanging valleys, turquoise lakes, and ancient beech forests. It’s less crowded than nearby Fiordland, making it a favourite for hikers and climbers seeking solitude and untamed beauty.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan at least 2–3 days to experience the park properly. If you’re doing a Great Walk like the Routeburn, allow 3 days for the full track (or 1 day for a shorter section). For a taster, a day trip from Wanaka or Arrowtown can include the Rob Roy Glacier walk and a scenic drive. Multi-day trampers should budget 5–7 days for longer routes like the Rees-Dart or the complete Aspiring circuit.
