Alexandra

Alexandra, a sun-drenched town in Central Otago, is the heart of New Zealand's stone fruit region. Perched on the banks of the Clutha River, it's a laid-back base for exploring rugged landscapes, historic gold-mining relics, and vineyards. With more sunshine hours than anywhere else in the country, this is a place where the pace slows and the scenery shines.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Two to three days is ideal to soak up Alexandra's relaxed vibe. Spend one day exploring the town and cycling part of the Clutha Gold Trail, another day tasting wine and visiting Clyde, and a third for a longer ride on the Otago Central Rail Trail or a river adventure. If you're short on time, a day trip from Queenstown (1.5 hours' drive) is doable but you'll only scratch the surface.
