Lake Moeraki is a serene, dark-water lake nestled in a temperate rainforest on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. It's a haven for nature lovers, offering a glimpse into a lush, untouched world where the only sounds are birdsong and lapping waves. The lake is part of the Moeraki Valley, and its shores are fringed with ancient kahikatea and rimu trees, creating a mystical atmosphere that feels worlds away from civilization.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for at least one full day and one night to truly appreciate Lake Moeraki. The glowworm kayak tour is best done in the evening, so arrive early afternoon to settle in and take a short walk. The next morning, you can do the Monro Beach Track and a daytime kayak. If you're short on time, a half-day stop can still include a walk and a quick paddle, but you'll miss the glowworms.
