Jackson Bay is a remote, windswept settlement on the wild West Coast of New Zealand's South Island, where the Southern Alps meet the Tasman Sea. This tiny fishing village, officially known as Jackson Bay / Okahu, offers a raw and authentic slice of coastal life, far from the tourist crowds. The drive here along the Haast-Paringa Cattle Track is an adventure in itself, with stunning views of the rugged coastline and dense rainforest.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Jackson Bay is a half-day stop on a West Coast road trip. Most visitors spend 1–2 hours exploring the wharf, beach, and short walks. If you're driving the Haast-Paringa Cattle Track, allow an extra 1–2 hours for the scenic detour. The bay is best visited as part of a journey between Haast and Fox Glacier.
