Paparoa National Park, on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island, is a wild and untamed slice of nature where the rugged Tasman Sea meets ancient limestone landscapes. This park is famous for its dramatic pancake rock formations, lush rainforests, and the hauntingly beautiful Pororari River. Whether you're exploring sea caves, spotting rare birds, or simply breathing in the fresh coastal air, Paparoa offers a raw and unforgettable wilderness experience.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a full day exploring the park’s highlights, but if you want to tackle longer walks like the multi-day Paparoa Track or the Inland Pack Track, plan for 2–3 days. A half-day is enough for the Pancake Rocks and a short walk, but to truly soak in the park’s beauty, a full day is ideal. Stay overnight in nearby Punakaiki or Greymouth to pace your adventure.
