Jacksons Bay Beach

Jacksons Bay Beach is a remote, wild stretch of sand on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island, where the Tasman Sea meets the dramatic Southern Alps. This is a place of raw beauty, with driftwood-strewn shores, rolling surf, and a sense of isolation that feels truly off the beaten path. It's the kind of beach where you can walk for miles without seeing another soul, listening to the crash of waves and the call of seabirds.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for at least half a day to fully appreciate Jacksons Bay Beach and its surrounding walks. Arrive in the morning when the light is soft and the wind is often calmer. Combine a beach stroll with the Ship Creek walk (allow 1-2 hours) and the Monro Beach Walk (about 1 hour round trip). If you're driving the Haast Pass, you can easily spend a full day exploring the area, including a picnic lunch on the beach.
