Buller Gorge is a dramatic, river-carved canyon on New Zealand's West Coast, where the Buller River thunders through steep, bush-clad cliffs. This is a landscape of raw, untamed beauty — think deep green rainforest, shimmering rock pools, and the constant roar of white water. It's a paradise for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike, offering some of the country's best jet-boating, white-water rafting, and scenic walks.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors base themselves in Murchison or Westport and spend a full day exploring the gorge. A half-day is enough for a jet-boat ride and a short walk, but to add rafting or a longer tramp, plan for a full day. The gorge is on SH6, so it's an easy stop on a drive between Nelson and the West Coast.
