Thunder Creek Falls is a spectacular 96-metre waterfall tucked into the lush rainforest of Mount Aspiring National Park, a short detour off the Haast Pass Highway. The roar of the falls builds as you approach through a mossy beech forest, and the viewing platform offers a misty, up-close encounter with the cascade. It's a quick, rewarding stop on any West Coast road trip.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for 20–30 minutes to enjoy the falls and the short walk. It's an ideal pit stop on the drive between Wanaka and the West Coast – stretch your legs, snap photos, and breathe in the fresh mountain air. If you're exploring further, allow a half-day to include nearby walks and picnic spots.
