Paparoa National Park, on the wild West Coast of New Zealand's South Island, is a dramatic landscape of limestone cliffs, pancake-stacked rocks, and lush rainforest. The park is famous for the Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki, where the sea surges through blowholes, but there's so much more to explore—caves, rivers, and coastal walks that feel like stepping into a prehistoric world.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend half a day exploring the Pancake Rocks and a short walk, but to truly experience the park, plan a full day. If you're short on time, the Pancake Rocks loop and Truman Track can be done in 2–3 hours. For hikers, the multi-day Paparoa Track (formerly the Inland Pack Track) offers a 3–4 day tramping experience through the heart of the park.
