Thunder Creek Falls Walk is a short, rewarding detour off the Haast Highway on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. This easy bush walk leads you to a stunning 28-metre waterfall cascading into a deep, clear pool. The track winds through lush native forest of rimu, beech, and tree ferns, with the sound of rushing water building as you approach the viewing platform. It's a classic West Coast experience: wild, green, and refreshingly untamed.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

The walk itself takes just 10–15 minutes each way, so allow 30 minutes to an hour for the full visit including photo stops. It's a perfect quick break when driving between Haast and Fox Glacier. If you're in the area, consider spending a half-day exploring several short waterfall walks along the highway.
