Kawarau Gorge, on the road between Queenstown and Cromwell, is a dramatic river canyon carved by the Kawarau River. Its schist rock walls, turquoise waters, and historic gold-mining relics make it a captivating stop for travelers exploring Central Otago. The gorge is also famous for bungy jumping at the historic Kawarau Bridge, where the world's first commercial bungy jump took place in 1988.
