Perched high above the wild Haast River, this lookout offers one of the most dramatic views on the West Coast. The river churns through a deep gorge, its milky-blue waters fed by glaciers, while dense rainforest clings to the steep valley walls. On a clear day, you might spot the Southern Alps in the distance. It's a quick, rewarding stop that captures the raw beauty of South Westland.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 20–30 minutes for the short walk and photo stop. It's a perfect quick break on the drive between Haast and Fox Glacier, or as part of a longer day exploring the Haast area. Combine with nearby short walks like the Ōkuru River walk or the Haast Beach for a half-day outing.
