Castle Hill is a surreal landscape of massive limestone boulders scattered across a grassy hillside, like the ruins of an ancient fortress. Located between Christchurch and the West Coast, this otherworldly site is a favorite for photographers, climbers, and anyone who appreciates nature's oddities. The Māori name, Kura Tāwhiti, means 'treasure from a distant land,' reflecting the area's significance as a source of pounamu (greenstone). Walking among the boulders feels like stepping onto another planet.
