Marahau is the laid-back gateway to Abel Tasman National Park, a sun-drenched slice of New Zealand's South Island where golden beaches meet lush native bush. This small settlement at the park's southern entrance is all about the outdoors — kayakers paddle turquoise waters, walkers follow the famous coastal track, and the vibe is refreshingly unhurried. With a handful of cafes and a strong sense of coastal calm, Marahau feels like a secret you're lucky to have found.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 2–3 days in Marahau to fully appreciate the park. A day for kayaking or a boat cruise, another for a walk on the Coast Track (or a section of it), and a third to relax on the beach or explore nearby Kaiteriteri. If you're short on time, a single day trip from Nelson is possible, but you'll miss the magic of a sunset paddle.
