Lake Manapouri, nestled in Fiordland National Park, is a serene gem often overshadowed by its more famous neighbours. With its deep, pristine waters and forested islands, it offers a tranquil escape and a gateway to some of New Zealand's most spectacular wilderness. The lake's Maori name, Manapouri, means 'sorrowful heart', but you'll find only joy in its crystal-clear reflections of the surrounding mountains.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Spend at least one full day here to take a Doubtful Sound cruise and explore the lake. If you're a keen hiker, allow 3-4 days for the Kepler Track or combine with a night in Te Anau for a longer Fiordland itinerary.
