Truman Track

Just a short detour off State Highway 6, the Truman Track delivers a quintessential West Coast experience in under an hour. This easy rainforest loop leads you through dense podocarp forest, where the air smells of damp earth and fern, before opening onto a wild, windswept beach. The contrast between the silent, green cathedral of trees and the roaring Tasman Sea is pure New Zealand drama.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 30–45 minutes for the loop track and beach exploration. It’s an ideal short stop to break up a drive between Greymouth and Westport, or as a quick leg-stretcher if you’re based in Punakaiki. Combine with a visit to the Pancake Rocks for a half-hour detour total.
