Kura Tawhiti Conservation Area

Kura Tawhiti, also known as Castle Hill, is a surreal landscape of giant limestone boulders scattered across a grassy basin. This protected area is not only a geological wonder but also a site of deep cultural significance to Ngāi Tahu, who consider it a treasure. Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 1–2 hours exploring the boulder field and taking photos. If you’re a climber or want to hike the longer trails, allow half a day. The site is easily visited as a stop between Fox Glacier and Christchurch, or as a quick detour from State Highway 73.
