Duvauchelle is a tiny settlement on the shores of Akaroa Harbour, on Banks Peninsula. With its sheltered bay, historic wharf, and laid-back vibe, it feels a world away from Christchurch, yet is only a 90-minute drive from the city. The surrounding hills are patchworked with farmland, and the calm waters of the harbour are perfect for kayaking and fishing. It's a quiet base for exploring the wider Akaroa area, with a couple of excellent cafés and a general store that stocks local produce.
