Cardrona is a tiny, historic gold-mining hamlet tucked into the Cardrona Valley between Queenstown and Wanaka. Despite its size, it packs in character with a beautifully preserved 19th-century hotel, a quirky museum, and a reputation for excellent skiing at the nearby Cardrona Alpine Resort. The drive over the Crown Range is an adventure in itself, offering sweeping views of the Southern Alps.
