Arthur's Pass Village is a tiny alpine settlement nestled in the Southern Alps, serving as the gateway to Arthur's Pass National Park. This rugged outpost offers a true taste of New Zealand's high-country wilderness, with dramatic mountain scenery, braided rivers, and dense beech forests right at your doorstep. The village itself is a low-key cluster of lodges, a pub, and a visitor centre, but it's the surrounding landscape that steals the show — a paradise for hikers, climbers, and anyone craving fresh alpine air.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend one or two nights in Arthur's Pass Village. A single night allows for a couple of short walks and a drive over the pass, but two nights give you time for a full-day hike (like the Avalanche Peak climb) and a relaxed evening at the historic Wobbly Kea pub. If you're thru-hiking the Te Araroa or doing the Great Alpine Highway journey, even a few hours' stop is worthwhile for the Devil's Punchbowl walk and a coffee at the village store.
