Raglan is a laid-back surf town on New Zealand’s west coast, where black-sand beaches meet lush farmland and a bohemian spirit thrives. Famous for its left-hand point break at Manu Bay (featured in the cult classic surf film Endless Summer), the town offers a perfect blend of outdoor adventure, artisan food, and creative energy. With its colourful cafes, galleries, and friendly locals, Raglan feels like a world away from the tourist trail—a place to slow down, paddle out, and soak up the raw coastal beauty.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend one to two full days in Raglan, which gives you time to surf or hike, explore the town’s cafes and shops, and visit the nearby waterfalls. If you’re on a tight schedule, a day trip from Hamilton is doable (about 45 minutes’ drive), but you’ll want to stay longer to really unwind. For surfers, three to five days will let you chase the best swells and explore multiple breaks.
