Kurow is a small, sun-baked settlement on the banks of the Waitaki River in North Otago. It's the gateway to the stunning Waitaki Valley, famous for its salmon fishing, vineyards, and the nearby hydro-dams. The town has a laid-back, rural charm and is a perfect stop on a South Island road trip.

Most visitors spend a few hours to half a day in Kurow itself, but it's an ideal base for a night or two if you want to explore the wider Waitaki Valley. Stop for a coffee and a wander, then continue on to Oamaru or Omarama. Anglers and wine lovers may want to linger longer.
