Nevis Bungy is not for the faint-hearted. Suspended 134 metres above the Nevis River canyon, this is New Zealand's highest bungy jump — and one of the most adrenaline-charged experiences on the planet. Operated by AJ Hackett Bungy, the jump is accessed via a purpose-built cable car that shuttles you from the cliff edge to a glass-walled pod suspended mid-canyon. The freefall lasts a heart-stopping 8.5 seconds, and the rebound is equally exhilarating. Even if you're not jumping, the remote alpine setting, with its sheer schist cliffs and braided river below, is a spectacle in itself.
Highlights & What to See
- The jump itself — a 134-metre leap into a narrow canyon; you can choose to touch the water (if you dare) or stay dry.
- The canyon views — from the suspended pod, the Nevis River winds through a dramatic landscape of rock and tussock.
- The cable car ride — a scenic 10-minute journey from the cliff-top base across the chasm, building anticipation.
- Watch other jumpers — the viewing platform offers front-row seats to friends or strangers taking the plunge.
- Combine with Nevis Swing — the world's largest swing, also on site, for a different kind of adrenaline hit (book separately).
Suggested Time to Spend
Plan for at least half a day. Allow 30 minutes to check in, sign waivers, and get harnessed, then 10 minutes each way on the cable car. The jump itself is over in seconds, but you'll want time to watch others and soak up the atmosphere. Most visitors combine Nevis Bungy with a morning or afternoon exploring nearby Queenstown. If you're jumping, factor in a couple of hours for the whole experience, including travel from Queenstown (about 40 minutes drive).
Nearby Areas Worth Combining

- Wanaka — a relaxed lakeside town with the famous #ThatWanakaTree and excellent wineries, about 1.5 hours drive.
