Manapouri, a serene lakeside settlement on the edge of Fiordland National Park, is your gateway to some of New Zealand's most pristine wilderness. With Lake Manapouri, the country's second deepest lake, as its centrepiece, this quiet town offers unparalleled access to Doubtful Sound and the Kepler Track, all without the crowds of Te Anau.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Manapouri is best as a base for 2–3 days. This allows time for a full-day Doubtful Sound cruise, a half-day on the lake, and a day hike on the Kepler Track. If you're short on time, you can still experience the highlights in one full day by combining a lake cruise with a short walk. For those keen on multi-day tramping, plan 3–4 days for the full Kepler Track circuit.
