Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most walkers complete the Kepler Track in three to four days, with two nights in Department of Conservation (DOC) huts. A common itinerary is: Day 1 – hike from the control gates to Luxmore Hut (about 5-6 hours), Day 2 – cross the alpine tops to Iris Burn Hut (6-7 hours), and Day 3 – descend to Moturau Hut or continue to the Rainbow Reach exit (5-6 hours). If you have extra time, consider an extra day to explore side trips or simply relax at the huts. The track is well-marked and suitable for moderately fit hikers, but be prepared for weather changes, especially in the alpine sections.
