Spanning the turquoise Kawarau River, this historic bridge is more than just a crossing – it's the birthplace of commercial bungy jumping. A.J. Hackett made his first leap here in 1988, and the adrenaline legacy continues today. Even if you're not jumping, the bridge offers dramatic views of the schist cliffs and the river far below, and you can watch others take the plunge from a viewing platform.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 30 minutes to an hour if you're just watching and taking photos. If you're bungy jumping, plan for 1–2 hours including check-in, the jump, and collecting your video. The site is a quick stop on the way between Queenstown and Cromwell, so it fits easily into a day's road trip.
