Sandymount is a dramatic headland on the Otago Peninsula, offering some of Dunedin's most spectacular coastal views. This windswept reserve is a haven for hikers and wildlife enthusiasts, with rugged cliffs, a striking volcanic crater, and the chance to spot albatross, seals, and penguins. The hike to the summit rewards you with panoramic vistas over the Pacific Ocean and the Otago Harbour.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allocate at least half a day to fully experience Sandymount. The summit hike takes about 2–3 hours round trip, but you'll want extra time to explore the lower trails and beaches. Combine it with a visit to the nearby Royal Albatross Centre at Taiaroa Head for a full day on the Otago Peninsula.
