Kawarau Bridge Bungy is the birthplace of commercial bungy jumping, a heart-stopping 43-metre leap from a historic bridge into the turquoise Kawarau River gorge. Since AJ Hackett made the first jump here in 1988, this spot has become a pilgrimage for adrenaline seekers and a must-do on any New Zealand adventure itinerary. Even if you're not jumping, the viewing platform offers a thrilling spectator experience, and the on-site café serves excellent coffee to steady your nerves.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 1–2 hours here: 30–45 minutes for the jump (including weigh-in and briefing) plus time to watch others and soak in the scenery. If you're not jumping, 30 minutes is enough to watch a few jumps and grab a coffee. The experience is easily combined with a half-day in Arrowtown or a winery tour in Gibbston Valley.
