Invercargill, New Zealand's southernmost city, is a charming gateway to the rugged Catlins and Stewart Island. With its well-preserved Victorian and Edwardian architecture, world-class museums, and friendly small-town vibe, it offers a genuine slice of Kiwi life away from the tourist crowds. The city is also the proud home of the classic Kiwi fast-food chain, Burger Fuel, and the legendary Bill Richardson Transport World.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Two full days is ideal to explore Invercargill's main attractions and soak up its relaxed atmosphere. Spend one day on the city's museums and parks, and a second day for a trip to Oreti Beach and the nearby Bluff (15 minutes south) for the famous Bluff oysters or a walk up Bluff Hill for stunning views across Foveaux Strait. If you're heading to Stewart Island, factor in an extra half-day for the ferry.
