Winding through the historic heart of Central Otago, the Cromwell Heritage Trail is a captivating 5km loop that retraces the gold-mining and fruit-growing stories of this rugged region. This easy walking and cycling trail hugs the shores of Lake Dunstan, passing old stone buildings, orchards, and the eerie remnants of the town that was partially flooded when the lake was formed in the 1990s. It’s a journey through time, with interpretive panels that bring the past to life.
