Mapua is a charming waterfront village on the Waimea Inlet, just 25 minutes from Nelson. With its vibrant arts scene, excellent cafés, and relaxed atmosphere, it's a perfect spot to unwind and soak up the creative energy of the Tasman region. The old apple-packing sheds have been transformed into galleries and studios, and the wharf buzzes with locals and visitors enjoying fresh seafood and stunning estuary views.

Suggested Time to Spend

Mapua is best enjoyed as a half-day trip from Nelson, or as a leisurely stop on a loop through the Tasman region. If you want to linger over coffee, browse the galleries, and enjoy a long lunch on the wharf, allow 3–4 hours. For a full day, combine it with a visit to Rabbit Island and a cycle along the Tasman's Great Taste Trail.
