Mount Taranaki's perfectly conical peak dominates the skyline, and Egmont National Park offers some of New Zealand's finest day walks and multi-day tramps. From lush rainforest to alpine herbfields, the trails here are as diverse as they are spectacular. Lace up your boots and breathe in the purest air as you explore volcanic ridges, waterfalls, and ancient forests.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend one to three days exploring the park. For a quick taste, a half-day allows time for the Dawson Falls and Wilkie's Pools walks. Dedicated hikers can tackle the summit in a full day (start early) or the Pouakai Circuit over two nights. If you have only a few hours, the short walks near North Egmont deliver big rewards.
