Just a short drive north of Kaikōura, the Ohau Waterfall Walk is a quick, rewarding detour that delivers big on drama. A gentle 20-minute stroll through coastal forest leads you to a viewing platform where fur seals and seal pups play in the churning pool at the base of the waterfall. The sight of these agile animals surfing the cascading water is utterly enchanting, and the whole experience feels like a secret slice of New Zealand's wild coastline.
