This 60-kilometer loop is a favorite among hikers for its relatively gentle gradients and exceptional views of the Murchison Mountains and the glacier-carved valleys below.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most hikers complete the Kepler Track in 3–4 days, staying at the Department of Conservation huts or campsites. The track is well-marked and can be walked in either direction, with the most common itinerary starting from the Control Gates and heading counterclockwise. Day hikers can enjoy sections like the Lake Te Anau shoreline or the climb to Mount Luxmore, but for the full experience, plan for an overnight trip. Book huts well in advance during peak season (October–April).
