Hushed and pretty Havelock, at the head of the Pelorus Sound, is the self-proclaimed 'Greenshell Mussel Capital of the World'. This tiny Marlborough Sounds settlement is a serene base for exploring the drowned valleys, forested peninsulas, and clear blue waters that define this stunning region. The air smells of salt and bush, and the pace is wonderfully slow.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Havelock is a perfect stop for one or two nights. If you're driving the scenic route between Picton and Nelson, it's an ideal lunch stop. For trampers or kayakers, two days allow time for a half-day cruise and a short walk or paddle. To fully explore the Pelorus Sound and do the Nydia Track, plan for three days.
