Whale Trail

Whale Trail is a scenic walkway that winds through the rugged landscapes near Hanmer Springs, offering a unique perspective on the region's geological history and native flora. This trail is less frequented than some of the area's other walks, making it a peaceful escape into nature. The path meanders along the banks of the Waiau Uwha River, with interpretive signs that tell the story of the ancient whales that once swam here when the area was submerged under the sea.
