Don't let the name fool you — Mount Terrible is actually a thrilling destination for hikers and mountain bikers in the Hanmer Springs area. This 1,464-metre peak offers panoramic views of the Amuri Range, the Waiau River valley, and on clear days, the Kaikōura Ranges. The journey to the summit is an adventure in itself, taking you through beech forest, alpine meadows, and rocky ridgelines. It's a favourite among locals for a challenging day walk that rewards with a genuine sense of accomplishment.
