The drive in on gravel roads is an adventure in itself, rewarding you with jaw-dropping scenery and a sense of discovery.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend a full day exploring Mavora Lakes, which allows time for a leisurely hike, a picnic by the water, and some fishing or photography. If you're camping, stay one or two nights to fully absorb the tranquility. The lakes are a popular stop on a Te AnauQueenstown road trip, but they deserve at least a half-day detour. Note that the gravel access road (Mavora Lakes Road) is rough in places; allow 45–60 minutes from the nearest sealed road.
