Marua Springs is a tranquil thermal retreat tucked into the forested hills near Hanmer Springs, offering a more intimate and nature-immersed alternative to its famous neighbour. The hot pools are fed by mineral-rich waters that emerge at 52°C, cooling to a blissful 38–40°C in the main pools. Surrounded by native beech forest and the sound of the Waiau River, this is a place to soak, unwind, and reconnect with the landscape — especially magical at dusk when the steam rises into the cool mountain air.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for at least 2–3 hours to fully enjoy the pools and riverside setting. Many visitors come for a relaxing afternoon or evening, but if you're combining with a walk or a meal at the on-site café, a half-day is ideal. There’s no need to rush — the whole point is to slow down.
