New Zealand's most famous wine region sprawls across the sun-drenched Wairau and Awatere Valleys, where the bright, piercing light and cool maritime climate produce world-class Sauvignon Blanc. This is the spiritual home of New Zealand wine, a landscape of endless vineyards, cellar doors, and mountain backdrops that rewards both connoisseurs and casual sippers with unforgettable tasting experiences.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Dedicate a full day to the Marlborough Wine Region, ideally two if you want to explore both the Wairau and Awatere Valleys without rushing. Many visitors base themselves in Blenheim or Renwick and spend the first day tasting in the Wairau, then head south on day two for the more rugged Awatere Valley. If you're on a tight schedule, a half-day tour from Picton or Hanmer Springs can give you a taste, but you'll likely wish you had longer.
