Marahau is the laid-back gateway to Abel Tasman National Park, where golden sands meet lush native bush and turquoise waters. This small settlement at the park's southern edge buzzes with kayakers, hikers, and sailors gearing up for adventures along one of New Zealand's Great Walks. The vibe is relaxed and outdoorsy, with a handful of cafes and galleries that celebrate the local artisan spirit.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Marahau is best enjoyed as a full-day base. Arrive early to rent a kayak or join a water taxi for a half-day trip into the park. If you're hiking, plan for a 2–3 day tramp on the Coast Track, or a shorter walk to Anchorage and back (4–5 hours). Even a few hours here lets you soak up the coastal atmosphere and grab a bite at a waterfront cafe.
